Caring for Your Candle

Candle care is very important to maximize the life and scent throw of your Once Upon a Time Candle. There are simple steps below to help you when you receive your candle:

Always burn any candle on a stable and heat/burn proof surface.

Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents and air currents. This will reduce uneven burning, smoking and excessive dripping.

Extinguish pillar candles when the wax pool reaches the outer edge of the candle. Otherwise, major dripping and spilling of wax may occur.

Never move or touch any candle that contains liquid wax.

Consider using only unscented candles in a dining or eating area. Candle scent may interfere with the aroma and taste of food.

To remove dried wax pools and drippings, consider placing the item into a freezer for an hour or so. This should cause the wax to shrink a bit allowing for easier removal.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always keep it within sight. Extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to sleep.

Burn candles only in a well-ventilated room.

Never attempt to extinguish a candle with water. This will cause the hot liquid wax to spread. If possible, use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to put out any candle.

Do not burn any candle any lower than ½’’ off its bottom if a container candle and within 2” of the bottom end if it is a pillar or taper candle.

Always read and follow any manufacturer instructions carefully.

Never burn a candle from both ends, even if you get adequate sleep.

Never burn any candle on or near any flammable material or surface.

Burn any container candle for a maximum of four continuous hours. Allow to cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.

Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another.

Keep the wick trimmed to ¼” on all types of candles before and during each use. Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, match heads and debris. The use of a wick trimmer with a “catch cup” will make this easier.

Always store candles in a cool, dry location. Tapers and thinner pillars should always be stored lying flat to minimize warping.
